1st Armoured Division Monument
Warsaw
The Streikdenkmal in Differdange was created in 1958 by sculptor Claus Cito to commemorate the Luxembourgish general strike of 1942, when steelworkers and industrial laborers in the country's south resisted the Nazi occupation and the forced conscription into German military service. The architectural setting was designed by René Fournelle. The monument records the names of strikers who were punished with deportation or execution, making it one of Luxembourg's most specific sites of working-class memory. It stands today as a quiet memorial in Differdange, a city whose identity was long shaped by its steel industry.
