Basilique Notre-Dame de Bonsecours

The Basilique Notre-Dame de Bonsecours is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in Bonsecours, a commune immediately east of Rouen on the edge of the Norman chalk hills. Completed in 1844 by Rouen architect Jacques-Eugène Barthélémy, it holds the distinction of being the first neo-Gothic church built in France, a pioneering example that shaped ecclesiastical architecture across the country for decades. It carries the rank of a basilica minor and is listed as a Monument historique. Its Marian shrine continues to draw pilgrims from across Normandy, and the interior preserves stained-glass windows and votive plaques that document the region's long tradition of devotional travel.
