Aiguille du Grépon

The Aiguille du Grépon is a 3,482 m granite spire in the Mont Blanc massif, rising along the sharp ridge east of the Glacier des Nantillons above Chamonix. Albert Mummery's first ascent in 1881 is regarded as one of the landmark technical climbs of 19th-century alpinism, widely credited with ushering in the era of modern rock climbing in the Alps. The standard route still requires solid fifth-grade climbing and is typically done as a multi-day alpine undertaking via the Nantillons hut. The summit affords an unobstructed panorama across the Mont Blanc massif toward the Matterhorn and the Bernese Alps.
