Ardrossan Castle

Ardrossan Castle is a medieval ruin perched on a ridge above the coastal town of Ardrossan in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The original fortress belonged to Clan Barclay and was partly demolished during the Scottish Wars of Independence in the early 14th century, a turbulent period that reshaped castle ownership across the west coast. What survives is a 15th-century keep, standing to corbel-course height, alongside a vaulted undercroft containing a kitchen, cellar, and a deep-passage well. Designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the site is freely accessible. The hilltop position offers broad views across the Firth of Clyde toward the Isle of Arran on clear days.
