Auld Aisle Cemetery

Auld Aisle Cemetery sits on the southern edge of Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire, just off Loch Road, and ranks among the oldest burial grounds in the area. In 1971 it was listed at Category A — Scotland's highest level of listed building protection — in recognition of the historical significance of its grave markers and surviving structural remains. The name likely refers to a medieval aisle or chapel that once stood on the site, traces of which may still be visible. Weathered epitaphs make it a quiet resource for genealogists and local historians researching the region's past. The tree-lined grounds offer a calm, unhurried walk well removed from everyday foot traffic.
