Argyle Street

Argyle Street stretches 3.4 kilometres across central Glasgow, making it the longest street in the city centre and one third of the main retail triangle alongside Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street. Named after Archibald Campbell, 3rd Duke of Argyll, the street has been a commercial backbone of the city since the 18th century. The eastern end, starting at Trongate, is a pedestrianised shopping zone lined with Victorian sandstone shopfronts characteristic of Glasgow's cityscape. Heading west, the street shifts in character towards quieter stretches of pubs and independent retailers as it approaches the city's West End neighbourhoods.
