Balloch Castle

Balloch Castle is a neogothic country house built in 1809 on the southern shore of Loch Lomond in West Dunbartonshire, occupying the site of a much earlier medieval castle. The building holds Category A listed status — Scotland's highest level of architectural protection — while its surrounding designed landscape was added to Scotland's Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in 1987, recognising its value as a deliberately composed romantic parkland. The castle interior is not publicly accessible, but the grounds form the green heart of the Loch Lomond Shores area: visitors walk tree-lined paths to the water's edge, take in views across the loch toward the Highland foothills, and explore ornamental garden sections with mature specimen trees.
