Bedlay Castle

Bedlay Castle — also recorded as Bedlay House or Bedley Castle — sits east of the small town of Chryston in North Lanarkshire, tucked into a pocket of woodland away from the surrounding residential area. Listed in 1971 at Category A, Scotland's highest tier of listed building protection, it is recognised as a structure of exceptional architectural or historic interest; the surrounding outbuildings together form a Category B ensemble. The estate has a local reputation as one of Scotland's more persistently haunted houses, a claim that has circulated in the region for generations. Access is limited and the castle is not a managed visitor attraction, lending it an air of quiet, overgrown isolation rather than polished heritage tourism.
