Balblair Distillery

Balblair is one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries, founded in 1790 in the village of Edderton in Ross-shire on the shore of the Dornoch Firth. Its historic malt kiln — the pagoda-roofed drying house central to traditional Highland distilling — is listed as a Category C monument on the Scottish heritage register. For decades Balblair distinguished itself by releasing vintage-dated single malts rather than standard age statements, a philosophy that earned it a dedicated following among whisky collectors. Guided distillery tours walk visitors through the full production process from mashing to cask maturation, and the on-site shop stocks expressions rarely found outside the distillery itself.
