Beaufort Castle

Beaufort Castle is the ancestral seat of the Lords Lovat, set in the Scottish Highlands near Beauly, around 18 kilometres west of Inverness. A fortification has stood on the site since at least the 12th century, tying the estate closely to the history of Clan Fraser of Lovat — whose chief was the last Jacobite leader executed on Tower Hill following the defeat at Culloden in 1746. The current building dates to 1880 and was constructed in the Scottish Baronial style, incorporating earlier fabric into its turrets, battlements, and dressed-stone facades, characteristic of the Victorian era's romantic reinvention of Highland castle architecture. Listed at Category A, Scotland's highest tier of listed building protection, the castle remains in private family hands and is not a standard visitor attraction, though its silhouette and surrounding parkland are visible from the surrounding lanes.
