Barnwell Castle

Barnwell Castle is a medieval ruin set south of Oundle in Northamptonshire, England, close to the village of Barnwell. It holds Grade I listed building status and is also designated a Scheduled Monument — England's highest protection category for archaeological sites. Little is firmly documented about its precise construction date, but the surviving masonry and layout are characteristic of Norman or early Plantagenet fortification. Today the ruin sits quietly within pastoral parkland, offering an unhurried and largely uncommercialised encounter with England's medieval defensive heritage.
