Beglik Tash

Beglik Tash is a Thracian rock sanctuary located roughly five kilometres north of Sozopol on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. Natural granite boulders were shaped and used for ritual purposes from around the 14th century BC through the 6th century AD, making it a site of continuous sacred use spanning over two thousand years. The Thracians carved the rock surfaces into altars, sacrificial basins, and circular cult arrangements that bear resemblance to astronomical alignments — their precise function remains a subject of ongoing archaeological debate. Much of the stonework survives intact and the site is freely accessible. A pine-forest path leads to the rocks, giving the visit an atmosphere that combines open-air archaeology with an unusually undisturbed natural setting.
