Bergehalde Wilsberg

Also known as: Halde Wilsberg

The Bergehalde Wilsberg near Würselen is a coal-mining spoil heap left over from the collieries that once defined the Aachen coalfield. Like many such mounds in the region, it accumulated over decades as waste rock was piled up from the surrounding pits, and today it stands as a quiet monument to the area's industrial past. In principle the summit offers broad views across the Würselen landscape, but years of neglect have allowed dense vegetation to swallow most of the designated viewpoints. Visitors report overgrown footpaths, broken glass on the summit, and a near-total absence of signage or maintenance — the site retains a raw, abandoned atmosphere that appeals mainly to hikers and drone pilots willing to navigate the undergrowth.
