Stollenmundloch Grube Gouley

The Stollenmundloch of the former Grube Gouley colliery is a preserved mine tunnel portal in the Wurm river valley near Würselen, on the edge of the historic Aachen coalfield. The Aachen coal district was one of western Germany's most productive mining regions for centuries, with operations winding down definitively in the 1990s. The portal — a masonry-framed entrance through which miners and coal wagons once passed — survives as a small industrial monument along a riverside path. Visitor reviews suggest it works best as a waypoint on a walk along the Wurm rather than a destination in its own right; its significance is most legible to those familiar with the region's mining past.
