Hamarhus was the medieval fortified residence of the Bishop of Hamar, situated across from Hamar Cathedral on the shores of Lake Mjøsa in Norway. The complex was destroyed during the Reformation and left to ruin after Swedish forces razed the medieval town of Hamar in 1567, a raid that effectively ended the city's existence for centuries. What survives today forms part of the Anno Museum, with the remaining stone walls set within a park landscape along the lakeshore. The ruins offer a tangible connection to the pre-Reformation ecclesiastical power of the Diocese of Hamar, one of Norway's five medieval bishoprics.
