Blanche

The Blanche station entrance on Métro Line 2 is one of the finest surviving examples of Hector Guimard's ornate green cast-iron canopy design, produced around 1900 and now classified as a listed historic monument. The name of the adjoining Place Blanche has a prosaic origin: white limestone dust from the quarry carts that once descended Montmartre's slopes settled across the square and gave it its enduring name. The Moulin Rouge sits directly opposite the station exit, making the street-level approach as much a destination as a transit stop, particularly after dark. The station itself is not wheelchair accessible and functions mainly as a gateway to the Montmartre neighborhood above.
