Blissestraße

Blissestraße station sits beneath Berliner Strasse in the Wilmersdorf local centre and opened on 29 January 1971 as part of the U7 line's first north-western extension. It was designed by Rainer G. Rümmler, a West Berlin architect who became the defining voice of expressive, colour-saturated underground architecture in early-1970s Berlin. His signature here is a striking acoustic ceiling of coffered wave-forms that transforms a utilitarian transit box into something closer to a sculptural interior — the ceiling survives largely as built, even after the wall tiling was renewed in the 2000s. Among students of postwar modernism, Rümmler's U-Bahn stations are increasingly recognised as an underappreciated strand of West German public design. The station is fully accessible via escalator and lift, and offers passenger Wi-Fi.
