Bismarckstraße

Opened on 28 April 1978, Bismarckstraße station serves as an interchange between U-Bahn lines U2 and U7 beneath the busy Bismarck/Wilmersdorfer Straße junction in Charlottenburg. Where neighbouring U2 stations such as Deutsche Oper were fitted out in the bold tile-and-colour vocabulary of Berlin's 1970s station design programme, Bismarckstraße was designed in deliberate counterpoint — exposed concrete surfaces, stripped-back geometry, and no decorative flourishes. That studied austerity makes it a minor architectural curiosity in the broader canon of Berlin underground design. For everyday commuters it remains one of the most frequented transfer points in western Berlin, and the station has been wheelchair-accessible since 2014.
