Avenida

Avenida station is part of the Linha Azul and belongs to the eleven original stations that inaugurated the Lisbon Metro on 29 December 1959, making it one of the network's founding stops. It sits beneath the Avenida da Liberdade, the city's grand tree-lined boulevard, between Marquês de Pombal and Restauradores. The station functions today as a straightforward commuter stop with no notable artistic programme or special architectural features, and it is not wheelchair accessible. Visitors heading to the Avenida da Liberdade emerge directly onto the boulevard above.
