Bordeaux-Saint-Jean, opened in 1898 and listed as a historic monument, is the busiest rail terminus in southwest France, handling nearly 63,000 passengers daily. Its belle époque stone facade and sweeping glass-roofed hall are characteristic of the grand French terminus style that defined late 19th-century railway architecture. The station's importance grew sharply in 2017 when the high-speed LGV Tours–Bordeaux line cut the journey time to Paris to just over two hours. The station operates until well after midnight most days and is fully wheelchair accessible throughout.
