Vrelo Bosne

Vrelo Bosne — the Spring of the Bosna — is a karst spring system from which the Bosna River emerges, set within a broad riparian park in the municipality of Ilidža, about 15 kilometres west of central Sarajevo. Water surfaces from multiple spring pools ringed by dense willows and poplars, keeping the site noticeably cool even in summer. The area is designated a natural monument and managed as a protected nature reserve by the Sarajevo Canton authority. A paved walkway follows the young river through the floodplain, and horse-drawn carriages ply the long tree-lined boulevard connecting Ilidža to the spring — a tradition that gives the outing an unhurried, old-fashioned character. For Sarajevans, it is a classic weekend escape.
