Brecon Castle

Brecon Castle is a medieval ruin sitting at the centre of the Welsh market town of Brecon in Powys. Classified as both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed structure, it holds the highest level of legal protection available in the United Kingdom. The fortification is believed to have Norman origins, established in the late 11th century as part of the conquest of Wales and used for centuries as a military stronghold along the Welsh Marches. Today only fragmentary walls survive, threaded unusually close into the town's urban fabric — easy to walk past, yet carrying considerable historical weight.
