Langstrasse

Also known as: Langstraße

Langstrasse is the spine of Zürich's Kreis 4 district — a Gründerzeit boulevard whose stucco facades are frequently tagged with graffiti and whose ground floors cycle between Turkish grocers, late-night kiosks, and secondhand boutiques. From the 1990s onward, the street transformed from a working-class red-light zone into Switzerland's most internationally recognized nightlife strip: basement vaults and courtyards were converted into techno clubs and jazz bars that continue to anchor Zürich's club scene. The tension between bourgeois tenement architecture, residual street-level sex work, and a vibrant underground culture gives Langstrasse a grit rarely found in Swiss cities. After midnight, the street fills with club queues, food-cart smoke, and the ambient hum of venues that rarely close before dawn.

Bar and club spine through District 4 — multicultural, loud, with late-night kiosks and live music until dawn.
