Sihl

The Sihl is a tributary of the Limmat that flows down the Sihltal and through western Zürich, forming one of the city's few genuinely semi-wild green corridors. Unlike the more channelled Limmat, the Sihl retains stretches of natural riverbank with shifting currents, gravel bars, and riparian woodland. Footpaths and informal trails follow the water, popular with joggers, walkers, and cyclists; calmer sections attract anglers. Major flood events — most recently in 2005 — serve as a periodic reminder that this gentle-looking urban river can carry substantial volumes of water.
