Aspern Nord
Vienna
Also known as: Donaupark, bauliche Gartenanlage und Kleindenkmäler
The Donaupark in Vienna's 22nd district covers nearly 63 hectares and was laid out for the Vienna International Garden Show in 1964 on a former rubbish dump. The Danube Tower at its center dates from the same event and gives the park its landmark. A narrow-gauge Liliputbahn miniature railway runs children between the Schoenwetterhalle and the tower - a tradition since opening. The park has an artificial lake, themed gardens from rose beds to rockeries, and regular open-air events in summer. The U1 metro gets you here from central Vienna in 15 minutes; the Kaisermuehlen-VIC station sits at the park's southeast corner.
