Gärten der Welt

Gaerten der Welt sits at the foot of the Kienberg in Berlin-Marzahn and is the largest international themed-garden park in the city. It opened in 1987 as the East German "Berliner Gartenschau" for the city's 750th anniversary, the GDR counterpart to West Berlin's Britzer Garten, and from 1991 was gradually rebuilt as a collection of national garden cultures. Today visitors can tour a Chinese garden with a teahouse, a Japanese rock garden, a Balinese tropical garden, an Islamic courtyard garden, Korean and Italian Renaissance gardens, plus a hedge maze. Since the 2017 International Garden Show a 1.5-kilometre cable car has linked the park to the Kienberg, turning it into a year-round family destination.
