Görlitzer Park

Goerlitzer Park, known locally as the Goerli, is a 14-hectare green space in Berlins Kreuzberg district, created after the demolition of the old Goerlitzer Bahnhof terminus that closed in 1985. Designed in the late 1980s as a deliberately raw counter-idea to classical city parks, it actively keeps the old rail grounds visible through tunnel remnants, wall fragments and a former track bed. Today skaters, families from the surrounding kiez, Turkish weekend barbecues and an internationally notorious drug trade at the western entrances meet here, making the park a permanent political topic. In the south sits a small childrens petting farm with pigs, goats and sheep, much-loved by families. The park borders Wrangelstrasse and the Maybachufer canal and is two minutes from Goerlitzer Bahnhof U-Bahn station.
