German Museum of Technology

The German Museum of Technology in Berlin-Kreuzberg occupies the grounds of the former Anhalter freight station and ranks, with its roundhouses, warehouses and modern wing, among the largest technology museums in Europe. Opened in 1983, it covers everything from looms and ships to locomotives and aviation, including a Berlin Airlift "candy bomber" jutting diagonally out of the facade in memory of 1948/49. Historic steam engines sit on the turntables of the roundhouses, and much is hands-on for kids. The site also includes the Spectrum Science Center with about 150 experimental stations. Plan a long day, especially with children.
