Capernaum Church

The Kapernaumkirche in Berlin-Wedding is a Protestant brick church in neo-Gothic style, built between 1900 and 1902 to plans by Hugo Hartung. It stands on a plot donated by Count Eduard Karl von Oppersdorff and transferred to the parish after completion. The slender 65-meter tower and the red clinker bricks with sandstone details typical of imperial Berlin define its appearance. The interior burned out during the Second World War and was rebuilt in a simplified form. Today the listed church is used by the Protestant parish Am Weddingplatz and regularly hosts concerts and exhibitions. Its location among Wilhelmine tenement blocks makes it a distinctive landmark in northern Wedding.
