Kuhtor

The Kuhtor is one of the few surviving remnants of Düsseldorf's medieval city fortifications, today protected as a listed monument in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its name likely derives from the cattle trade — livestock were driven through this gate to pasture along the Rhine. As a city gate it once marked the boundary of the walled old town, and it remains one of the most tangible traces of Düsseldorf's medieval street plan. The unadorned stonework stands in contrast to the modern buildings around it, making it a quiet but concrete piece of local urban history.
