Komische Oper Berlin

The Komische Oper Berlin is the smallest of Berlin's three opera houses and part of the combined organisation with the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Deutsche Oper and the Staatsballett. Its home on Behrenstrasse opened in 1892 as the Theater Unter den Linden, became the Metropoltheater in 1898, and has carried its current name as a stage for German-language opera, dance and operetta since 1947. From 1947 Walter Felsenstein shaped the house with his concept of realist music theatre; Barrie Kosky made it from 2012 to 2022 one of Europe's most sought-after addresses. While the main building is being refurbished, the ensemble currently performs at the Schillertheater in Charlottenburg. Productions combine German text with English surtitles.
