Maplewood Conservation Area

Maplewood Flats Conservation Area is a 126-hectare protected site on Burrard Inlet in North Vancouver, roughly 2 km east of the Second Narrows Bridge. The bulk of the area — 96 hectares — consists of intertidal mudflats and salt marsh, a rare coastal ecosystem preserved by Port Metro Vancouver as part of its ecological land stewardship program. The remaining 30 hectares are forested upland with walking trails. The site is well known among birders: migratory shorebirds, waterfowl, and wading birds use the mudflats as a critical stopover and feeding ground. Visitors can walk quiet coastal paths with open views across the inlet to the surrounding mountains, making it an accessible natural retreat close to the city.
