Metropol

Also known as: Theater am Nollendorfplatz, Goya, Mozartsaal · +6

A Wilhelmine theatre building on Nollendorfplatz in Berlin-Schoeneberg, built 1905-06 by Boswau and Knauer as the Neues Schauspielhaus with both theatre and concert hall. Erich Maria Remarque and Friedrich Hollaender were Weimar-era regulars; in the 1930s it became the Metropol operetta theatre; from 1977 the legendary Metropol disco, where David Bowie, Depeche Mode and New Order played during West Berlin's Schoeneberg subculture peak. It reopened as Goya in 2003 and has run again under the old name Metropol since 2017 as a club and events venue. Original stucco reliefs still survive behind the acoustic panels. Best experienced at an indie or electronica gig on a weeknight, when the high theatre volume cuts through the show.
