Newseum

The Newseum in Washington was an interactive museum on the history of journalism and press freedom. First opened in Rosslyn, Virginia in 1997 and reopened in a new building on Pennsylvania Avenue in 2008, it spread across seven floors and 23000 square metres. Collection highlights included original historic front pages, a section of the Berlin Wall with a watchtower, the largest surviving piece of the 9/11 WTC antenna, and an FBI-donated helicopter. Despite strong visitor numbers the museum was never financially viable and closed at the end of 2019; the building was sold to Johns Hopkins University. The collection is in storage while a new home is sought. Today visitors find only the stone tablet of the First Amendment carved above the entrance.
