Schloss Neuwied

Schloss Neuwied served as the residential palace of the Counts and Princes of Wied, functioning as the seat of government of the Principality of Wied until the principality was dissolved in 1806. The baroque complex sits in the northern part of Neuwied's city center, close to the Rhine riverbank at the mouth of the Wied river. Protected as a cultural monument, the site is primarily accessible today through its adjoining palace park, which stretches along the Rhine and offers a quiet retreat from the town center. The palace reflects the long dynastic history of the House of Wied, one of the oldest noble families of the Westerwald region.
