Borussia-Park
Cologne
Stadion An der Alten Försterei in the Köpenick district is home to 1. FC Union Berlin and, with around 22,000 seats, the largest dedicated football stadium in the German capital. The ground dates to 1920 but earned its legendary status in the summer of 2008, when more than 2,000 volunteer supporters renovated the wooden stands with their own hands to meet DFB licensing requirements — an act of collective ownership virtually unmatched in European football. The standing terrace remains the atmospheric heart of the stadium, producing a noise level and fan culture that stands apart from the polished commercial feel of modern Bundesliga arenas.
