122 mm howitzer M1938 (M-30)
Kharkiv
The displayed barrel of a Soviet 203mm B-4 howitzer (M1931) stands in Volgograd as a monument to the heavy artillery that shaped the Eastern Front of World War II. Developed between 1926 and 1931 and adopted into service in 1933, the B-4 was the heaviest artillery piece used in large numbers by the Red Army — 871 units were produced in total. During the Battle of Stalingrad (1942–43), heavy howitzers of this type were instrumental in bombarding encircled German forces inside the ruined city. The exhibit offers a concrete, close-up encounter with the scale of Soviet heavy ordnance from a decisive turning point of the war.
