Palmengarten

Frankfurt's Palmengarten is one of Germany's largest botanical gardens, spread across 22 hectares in the Westend district and open to the public since 1871. The collection originated from the private ducal garden of Adolph von Linden in Wiesbaden, relocated to Frankfurt after it was dissolved — a legacy that gave the garden an unusually rich founding stock of tropical specimens. The centrepiece is the Tropicarium, a connected series of heated glasshouses recreating tropical rainforest, semi-arid desert, and mangrove environments. Outdoor concerts at the historic pavilion animate summer evenings, while the rose garden and water lily pond make it a favoured spot for a quieter afternoon. Families come for the playground and school garden programmes; plant enthusiasts for the extensive cacti and succulent houses.
