AlpspiX

AlpspiX is a steel viewing platform perched at roughly 2050 metres on the Osterfelderkopf, a subsidiary summit of the Alpspitze near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Two cantilevered X-shaped arms extend over the Höllental valley — a drop of approximately 1000 metres — with grated floors that offer an unobstructed vertical view straight down. The platform opened on 4 July 2010 and has been free to access ever since, sitting about 20 metres above the top station of the Alpspitzbahn cable car. Adjacent to it, the 700-metre Gipfelerlebnisweg trail provides further panoramic views across the Wetterstein range and towards the Zugspitze. A head for heights is essential; the platform is not wheelchair accessible.
