Old Town Hall

Gothic town hall on Marienplatz (1480) — now home to the Toy Museum with historic treasures.

The Old Town Hall on Marienplatz was built between 1470 and 1475 by city architect Jörg von Halsbach in the Gothic style. For nearly four centuries it served as the seat of Munich's city council until the administration moved to the new town hall in 1874. The building suffered heavy damage in World War II and was faithfully reconstructed afterwards. Today the tower houses the Munich Toy Museum, with a charming collection of historic dolls, teddy bears, and tin toys — a magnet for families and nostalgia lovers alike.
