Amsterdam Amstel

Amsterdam Amstel is a through-station that opened in 1937 in the southeastern part of the Dutch capital, jointly operated by NS and city transport provider GVB. Its sober brick building holds Rijksmonument protected status, recognised as a characteristic example of late Dutch interwar functionalism — stripped of ornament and shaped entirely around movement. Intercity trains, regional services, and three Amsterdam Metro lines converge here, making it a transit hub for the city's southeast with around 27,500 daily passengers. Beyond its architectural designation, the station functions as a practical interchange point rather than a visitor attraction.
