The Arquivo Historico Ultramarino in Lisbon was founded in 1931 to preserve the archive of the former Portuguese Colonial Ministry. Comprising millions of documents on Portugal's colonial empire in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, it is one of the most significant primary source collections for the history of the colonial era. The archive is housed in the Palacio da Ega on Calcada da Boa-Hora.
