Bahnhofplatz

Bahnhofplatz forms the northern tip of Bahnhofstrasse and sits before the southern entrance of Zurich's main railway station. At its centre stands the Alfred Escher monument — a tribute to the man who, almost singlehandedly, founded the Swiss Federal Railways, co-founded what would become the ETH Zurich, and built the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (Credit Suisse). Below ground, the Shopville arcade and the SZU underground terminus connect the square to the wider transit network; above, several tram lines cross at its edge.
