Zurich Main Station

Zurich Main Station, opened in 1871, is Switzerland's busiest rail hub, handling around 450,000 passengers daily. Its imposing Historicist facade and sweeping steel-and-glass arched hall anchor the northern end of Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world's most expensive shopping streets. Tucked inside the main hall is a largely overlooked gem: a stained-glass window created by Marc Chagall in 1945, offering a rare moment of stillness amid commuter rush. Below street level, the ShopVille arcade spreads across multiple floors with boutiques, food stalls, and supermarkets. The station serves as the central interchange for Zurich's S-Bahn, tram network, and long-distance rail connections across Switzerland and into Europe.
