Berggruen Museum

The Museum Berggruen sits opposite Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, housed in the 19th-century Stueler buildings of the former royal guard barracks, and ranks among the most important collections of European modernism anywhere. Heinz Berggruen, born in Berlin and forced into exile as a Jew in 1936, returned later as a dealer and collector and sold his collection to the city of his birth in 2000 at far below market value, calling it a gesture of reconciliation. The core is more than a hundred works by Pablo Picasso, plus major holdings of Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti and Georges Braque. The building is closed for general renovation until 2025 and selected works tour internationally in the meantime. When it reopens, combine the visit with the neighbouring Scharf-Gerstenberg collection and Charlottenburg Palace.
