Bülowstraße

The elevated Bülowstraße station on Berlin's U2 line opened on 11 March 1902 as part of the city's very first electric elevated railway — one of the earliest metro systems in Europe. Perched on a brick viaduct in the Schöneberg district, the station is named after Prussian general Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz, a hero of the Napoleonic Wars-era German liberation campaigns. Cast-iron columns with Jugendstil ornamentation and a full-length steel-and-glass canopy give the platform its distinctive Wilhelmine character. As a listed monument, it is among the few surviving Berlin elevated stations to retain most of its original fabric. Two lifts provide step-free access to the side platforms.
