Baldern, medieval castle site
Also known as: Burgstelle Baldern, Baldern Castle, Burgstall Baldern · +1
Burg Baldern is now only a Burgstall, a wooded ridge with barely visible wall remains, on the Albis range near Stallikon in the canton of Zurich. In the Middle Ages it was held by a noble family that died out in the 13th century, after which the castle quickly fell into ruin. Today Baldern is classed as Swiss heritage of regional importance and is mostly a waypoint for hikers on the Albis Ridge trail. With views over the Reppisch valley and toward Lake Zurich, it is a quiet stop for walkers rather than a classic castle visit.
