Pavillon Le Corbusier

The Pavillon Le Corbusier on the Zurichhorn lakefront is the last building by the Swiss-French architect and his only work in steel and glass. Le Corbusier himself called it La Maison d'Homme; the interior designer Heidi Weber commissioned and ran it as a private museum until 2014. He designed the modular structure - built from squares of 226 centimetres - between 1962 and 1965 but died before completion; Jean Prouve finished it in 1967 and the landscape architect Pierre Zbinden shaped the surroundings. The cantilevered free-standing steel roof and the enamelled colour panels break with his familiar concrete vocabulary. Since 2019 the Museum fuer Gestaltung has operated the pavilion in the summer months, showing rotating exhibitions on Corbusier's furniture, paintings and urban visions.
