Malta's leading heritage conservation NGO, founded in 1965. Similar to the National Trust, it preserves and opens historic sites across the Maltese islands.
Dín l-Art Ħelwa — meaning "the beautiful land" in Maltese — is Malta's oldest and most prominent heritage conservation organization. Founded in 1965 in Valletta by Judge Maurice Caruana Curran, it operates similarly to the UK's National Trust, working to safeguard historic buildings, fortifications, and natural landscapes across the Maltese islands. Since its founding, the organization has restored numerous cultural sites and currently manages several of them as visitor attractions, staffed largely by volunteers. It campaigns actively against inappropriate development and promotes public awareness of Malta's built environment. Many lesser-known historical sites in Malta owe their preservation to decades of advocacy by this organization.
