Damenstiftskirche St. Anna

Munich

Rococo chapel from 1735 in the Hackenviertel, branch church of St. Peter Munich

The Damenstiftskirche St. Anna stands in Munich's Hackenviertel quarter at Altheimer Eck and belongs as a branch church to the main parish of St. Peter. The chapel was built in 1735 for a ladies' foundation – a noble women's community that lived and prayed nearby. Inside, visitors find a typical Munich Rococo interior with playful stucco work. The church is a listed architectural monument in Bavaria and lies only a few minutes' walk from Marienplatz, yet it is noticeably quieter than most churches in the direct tourist centre.
